walking backwards

I spent some time prepping for a drawing by throwing together this little composite in Photoshop. My goal was to set up the composition, proportions, and setting. However, I thought the mock up turned out pretty interesting all on its own. It’s fascinating how the brain works to creative a narrative in the absence of a pre-existing one, how it must reconcile all that it sees and wrestles to compose a whole, even if there was no original narrative or whole to be conceived of.

I’ve had this concept for an interactive sculpture for some years now. I’m resurrecting the idea from my sketchbook and trying to breathe life back in to it.

speed up

For this sketch, I tried to speed things up and quickly capture proportions and lights and darks. I like the angularity. I view these quick sketches like running back and forth across the basketball court before you actually play the game.

THE SEEKER

This pen and ink sketch was of someone I deeply love and admire. We had a chance to digitally exchange some deep thoughts lately, and those conversations stirred me. Many people call themselves seekers as a cowardly way to avoid closing their open mind on truth. But, sincere seekers have a fire in their belly and brave the cold in pursuit of truth.

He’s sincere.

Addie is amazing. She is intelligent, creative, funny, discerning, and oozes “older sister.” My prayer for her during this season of her life is that she develop the confidence that comes from above, and the ability to grow through self-examination versus using entertainment to escape those nagging internal questions.
